13 Mar Zero Odour Toilet
An odourless toilet has been around for decades, but we’ve always associated them with noise, bulky vent systems and the costly integration of complex extraction systems into your home. So, for the vast majority of us, we’ve settled with the simple option – stocking up with an arsenal of air-fresheners, and dousing the smell away.
But thanks to Expella’s ongoing research and development over the past 12 years, we finally have a solution that is compact, cost-effective and quiet. The Expella Odourless Toilet decreases dependence on harmful aerosols and bridges the barrier between an elegant toilet and an odour-free home.
Meet the Milu Odourless toilet range:
Carefully curated to suit any contemporary bathroom, these three elegant design ranges use Expella’s Odour Control Device to automatically detect when a toilet is being used (using pressure sensors under the seat) and start expelling odours from the toilet bowl directly into the sewer.
No longer must you install elaborate vent hoses through your bathroom and building to suck the smells outdoors. With Expella’s Odour Control Device (OCD), odours are vented at the source by an extraction fan which draws smells from the back of the pan into the OCD hidden in the cistern at the rate of 3.5 litres per second.
A non-return valve prevents odours from escaping back into the pan, and then these extracted smells in the OCD are discharged into the sewer, meaning they’re eliminated before they’ve even left the toilet.
This process is activated when someone sits on the seat meaning it’s only used when needed – no unnecessary noise or power use. This makes Expella’s Odourless toilets environmentally friendly, maintenance-free and highly effective with UNSW’s Odour Laboratory certifying up to 99.7% effectiveness at removing bathroom odours. Bathrooms are supposed to be places of comfort and wellbeing. Reclaim your bathroom oasis with Expella odourless toilets.
But why use an odourless toilet? Don’t conventional methods work just as well?
When you think about it, using a standard roof vent isn’t the most effective way of eliminating odours because smells have to travel across the room before they’re extracted.
Air fresheners only mask smells and often contain chemicals that can not only harm bathroom furniture and lung health but are also detrimental to the environment, creating waste that ends up in landfill – burning through your nostrils AND your wallet.
The logical solution is to quietly and effectively eliminate odours before they escape the toilet bowl – and this is the philosophy which had underpinned Expella’s mission to design a compact, contemporary and highly effective odourless toilet.
With over 30 design variants developed, tested in field trials, re-designed, tested again and professionally appraised, Expella has both optimised airflow performance and minimised noise. While this process seems relatively simple, the technology is backed by a high level of technical know-how and detailed engineering which ensures the required amount of air is extracted quietly whilst overcoming pressure caused by the air path. What’s more, is that Expella’s toilets are also rimless.
What’s the benefit of having a rimless toilet?
Rimless toilets, as the name suggests, operate differently to standard toilets. They work by flushing water around the rim of the toilet in an open channel, as opposed to having a standard box rim, which distributes water around the bowl in the form of jets, spurting from under the lip of the bowl.
This box rim design means that germs can build up underneath the rim, and this can be difficult to clean because of the small cavities which the water is dispersed from. Rimless toilets are much more hygienic because instead of this inner rim, they flush water around an open channel meaning there are far fewer places for germs to get stuck.
Furthermore, the way these rimless toilets are designed, each time the toilet is flushed, all germs and grime are washed away with the sweeping flush direction of the water, covering the entire bowl. This also makes them easier to clean and maintain because firstly, cleaning is required less often; and secondly, you can simply wipe the interior clean, there’s no nooks and crannies to scrub. This means you’ll help the environment by using fewer chemicals and cleaners. The direct-flush mechanism which rimless toilets use means water does not splash out of the bowl due to the circular, downward motion of the flush. This makes for a more hygienic bathroom as well as a more efficient toilet.
Are Odurless toilets expensive?
Usually, when new products hit the market, you expect them to be more expensive than the rest, but that’s the great thing about Expella’s odourless toilets. With years of development and technological innovation behind their designs, they are able to deliver a quality product at market prices. Expella’s Mod Odourless Toilet (which you can find displayed in our Bathroom Showroom in Brookvale – the first of these displays in Sydney!), comes in $27.00 cheaper than the average best-selling rimless back-to-wall toilets in our Bathrooms store (Pricing Report 2019).
Plus they have all the bells and whistles that have become synonymous with our range of quality toilets like soft-close lift-off seats, sleek minimalist designs to suit any contemporary bathroom, high-quality Geberit inlet and outlet valves, and a 4 star WELS rating.
Beneficial for your Home and for the Environment
With an Expella Odourless toilet, you’ll never have to worry about the smell in your bathroom again. This new toilet technology will quietly and effectively extract up to 99.7% of bathroom odours from your toilet before they’ve even left the bowl. The rimless technology integrated into Expella toilets adds another level of hygiene to your bathroom, requiring less cleaning and maintenance from you while improving your general wellbeing and comfort in the bathroom.
The added environmental benefits are also important to consider. Not only will you be reducing the need for harmful cleaning chemicals due to the easy-to-clean rimless feature, but you’ll also vastly decrease your dependency on harmful air-freshening aerosols meaning less waste in landfills and more money in your pocket.
Expella Odourless toilets have been tried and tested over the last 12 years by organisations like CSIRO Manufacturing & Infrastructure Technology Division, UNSW Atmospheric Emission and Odour Laboratory and UNSW Hydraulics Laboratory in addition to the innovators and engineers at Expella to deliver you the best quality, compact, odourless toilet at modest prices.
